How to Grow and Use Native and Non-Native Herbs

Herbs

Join URI Master Gardener Alan Newton for a presentation on growing and using native and non-native herbs on Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m.

Learn about civilization’s long history with herbs, including the use of native herbs in pre-colonial New England. Find out how to grow and care for herbs. Explore a wide variety of ways to use them in cooking and medicine, and discover local plants that are often considered weeds but are, in fact, herbs.

Retired minister and educator Alan Newton is a 2020 graduate of the URI Master Gardener Program and the 2020 Rookie of the Year. He is the coordinator of the Comprehensive Community Action Program Garden in Cranston, a 4,000 square foot plot that provides fresh fruit and vegetables to the CCAP Food Bank.

This event is co-sponsored by the Warwick Neck Garden Club and Warwick Public Library.

This event is free and open to all.
